Stability and Concurrent Validity of the Career Ability Placement Survey (CAPS) Against the DAT and the GATB

Test-retest reliability coefficients for the brief Career Ability Placement Survey (CAPS) and concurrent validity correlations against the DAT and GATB are presented for samples of ninth and tenth grade students. That reliability coefficients ranged from .70 to .95 is considered to reflect a satisfactory level of reliability for the CAPS. Correlations against conceptually similar tests for the DAT ranged from .47 to .77 and for the GATB from .63 to .80. The high test-retest reliability estimate and the generally high magnitude of correlations between CAPS tests and conceptually similar tests in the DAT and GATB suggest that the CAPS should be considered as a viable alternative to these longer batteries, especially whenever consideration of total administration time is an important factor.
