An Examination of Cooper's Test for Monotonic TrendFarleigh Dickinson University Cooper (1975) presents "a new test for increasing or decreasing trend" which, he indicates, (1) is superior to the Cox-Stuart tests because it is defined in terms of more Bernoulli trials, and (2) is a binomial test. The present paper shows that Cooper's test statistic (1) is not a binomial random variable, but (2) is linearly related to Kendall's Tau.
