A Comparison of the Predictive Validity of a Measure of General Intelligence and a Piaget-Derived Test Relative to an Achievement Examination in High School Chemistry

Intelligence test scores and the Piaget-derived Longeot test scores were compared as predictors of chemistry achievement. It was found that intelligence test scores (IQ scores) did predict both concrete and formal chemistry achievement more accurately than did the Longeot scores. However, it was pointed out that the construct measured by the Longeot is more clearly defined than the construct measured by the intelligence test. In this respect the Longeot measure may be preferable to the intelligence test.
