Factor Stability of the Comrey Personality Scales

Richard F. Booth

Naval Health Research Center San Diego, California

Using Comrey's units of trait measurement, Factored Homogeneous Item Dimensions, the factorial composition of the eight personality scales was determined for two samples of Navy personnel— 663 enlisted men and 666 enlisted women. Comrey's original factor loadings for male and female samples were essentially replicated. Deviations in factor loadings on the Masculinity-Femininity Scale suggested that the composition of this scale should be reevaluated.
