Concurrent Validity of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children in a Sample of Mexican-American Children

Concurrent validity of the newly developed individually administered intelligence/achievement instrument, the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC), was investigated with 42 English-speaking Mexican-American Head Start children. The criterion test was the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI). Correlation coefficients between the five K-ABC Global Scale Standard scores and the three WPPSI IQ Scale scores were found to be typically in the .50s and .60s (and .60s and .70s when corrected for range restriction). Thus some evidence was provided for the concurrent validity of the K-ABC. The findings are discussed in light of several concurrent validity studies reported in the K-ABC technical manual and in the context of language-related issues.
