Concurrent Validity of the WPPSI with Mexican-American Preschool Children

The concurrent validity of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) was investigated in a sample of 39 Mexican-American preschool children from low socioeconomic status background. The measure against which concurrent validity was assessed was the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA). The correlations of each of the three WPPSI IQ scores with each of the five MSCA Scale scores that were typically in the .60s and .80s indicated some specific support for the concurrent validity of the WPPSI for Mexican-American preschool children. In light of the paucity of psychometric research of the WPPSI with Mexican-American children, further investigations are recommended.
