An Empirical Examination of Two Transformations of Sample CorrelationsThe University of Akron
The University of Akron
The University of Akron This paper examines the differential accuracy of the Fisher and Hotelling transformations of the correlation coefficient. Contrary to expectation, the Hotelling transformation provided a minimal gain in power and was associated with a larger Type I error rate when compared to Fisher's formula with small sample sizes. The two transformations produced essentially identical results for larger sample sizes.
