A Simple and Efficient Binary Coding Algorithm and "C" Computer Program that Facilitate Analysis of Categorical Data

An efficient method for coding and decoding categorical data is presented. The coding algorithm and computer program allows the researcher to simultaneously code category frequencies and specific category responses. The computer program reads the binary code and produces a data file consisting of category frequency counts and a printed output file consisting of a complete written record of all of the subjects' responses. The coding algorithm and computer program can significantly reduce the time, expense and errors associated with categorical data coding, retrieval, and analysis.
