Ball State University Correlations of National Teacher Examination Core Battery scores and college grade point average with a measure of teaching effectiveness were evaluated for 493 first-year teachers. The correlation was higher for GPA (r = .28) than for the Core Battery (R = .16). The Core Battery did not improve the prediction of teacher effectiveness over using only GPA.
