Factor Analytic Study of Interracial Similarity for the Supervisory Behavior Description Questionnaire

William R. Allen

University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth

To examine interracial similarity of the leadership dimensions Initiating Structure and Consideration, a factor analysis was performed on the responses of 224 Black and White male naval recruits to the Supervisory Behavior Description Questionnaire. Coefficients of factorial congruence were computed between the factor structures of two-factor solutions for Black and White subsamples. As hypothesized, no differences were found. The leadership dimensions were found to be stable with respect to race.
