Effects of Sample Size on the Distribution of Selected Fit Indices: A Graphical ApproachUniversity of Houston Clear Lake The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of sample size on the cumulative distribution of selected fit indices. Two models (i.e., a reduced and a complete model) and six (20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000) sample sizes were used to investigate the effect on the cumulative distribution of the fit indices as sample size was varied. Generally, the comparative fit index (CFI) exhibited very stable patterns and was less influenced by sample size or data types than were other fit indices. In addition, the normed fit index performed similarly to the CFI.
