Development and Psychometric Evaluation of the Revised University Student Hassles Scale

Marjorie A. Pett

University of Utah

Mary Jayne M. Johnson

Brigham Young University

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the scores on the Revised University Student Hassles Scale that was developed to identify everyday irritants experienced by a diverse body of university students. Factor analyses of data obtained from 965 graduate and undergraduate students yielded a well-differentiated 11-factor solution of internally consistent and stable scores. The 57-item instrument distinguished between students with high and low stress and was unrelated to students’ perceptions of their physical health.

Key Words: hassles • Revised University Student Hassles Scale • factor analyses • psychometric evaluation
